Semester 1: Week 1
This week we researched what games were popular in the current market and what games we would be interested in taking inspiration from. Our team had no experience in online multiplayer content so we decided to focus more on the single-player aspect, while still focusing on what was appealing about the online games like Fall Guys and Among Us.
We concluded the simplistic, cute art styles were part of what made these games appealing from a visual standpoint, plus Fall Guys had a superb social media presence that, to us, greatly helped in the success of the game. Games like Doom and Ultrakill were games we all collectively enjoyed and they were even interesting from a visual perspective as well.
After discussing the types of games which were currently of interest to us and the type of game we all wanted to make we settle on making a first-person shooter. Our aim being to make something that felt good to play at all times - platforming sections should not bore you in between action arenas and vice versa. We found a lot of commonality in how much we enjoyed the parkour-esque elements of Karlson, Ultrakill and Titanfall, and how the combat elements did not suffer due to them, they lent themselves to the combat experience rather than diminishing it.
