Semester 1: Week 2
For this week we looked into games we enjoyed outside of the mainstream or thought were interesting to take inspiration from. The over-the-top gore and fast paced action from Doom Eternal and Hotline Miami were things we all agreed would lens itself greatly to the style of combat in our game. The comedic stylings of Among Us and the Stanley Parable were also things we would like to replicate, as such we concepted a witty sidekick who would make quips to the player during combat sections and act as the main source of game exposition.
Roboquest was a game that held great interest for us, mechanically, thematically and visually. The comic book aesthetic was something we definitely wanted to replicate in our game in combination with the grungy, hellish setting of Doom. It was here that we decided to make a fast paced, FPS Boomer shooter akin to Doom, Roboquest and Apex Legends. Our main goals here were to make a game which played smoothly and satisfyingly, while simultaneously having a sense of style to it.
