Semester 1: Week 8

This week we decided to make a new project set up for the game. We were having issues with Unity’s URP lighting (Universal Render Pipeline) not allowing us to use some of our effects/assets. A new project was made to solve this issue. We had been discussing creating a new project so that we could remove any unnecessary assets or scripts that were taking up space and so this rendering issue was the final piece of motivation it took for us to take action.

A new shader was added to our game that gives an outline effect to all our assets, this helps the general feel of the game as it captures the comic-book style that we discussed early on in the products development. In addition to this, multiple new asset packs were added to the game.

We also managed to pin down the profiles and motivations of both of our main characters for our game and spent some time to fully developed them.

Duane (The Player) - Duane is a disreputable, down-on-his-luck character who, upon witnessing the evil corporation of the game stealing the souls of civilians and sending them to hell, is banished to hell himself. While there, his body broken and all but destroyed, he is befriended by a demonic skull named Belial who rebuilds him using various pieces of detritus strewn about in hell (i.e. discarded robot/demon parts).

His motivation throughout the game is to take revenge upon the evil corporation who killed him.

Belial - Belial is a demon who embodies a floating skull and acts as side-kick and comic relief to the player, while also providing narrative exposition. He is the one who resurrects Duane when he is sent to hell and is the one who sets him on his path to revenge. Unbeknownst to the player, his true motivation lies in getting to where the soul transference procedure takes place and to get a body of his own. He is the hidden antagonist of the game, all the while convincing the player that the corporation is the main antagonist.

Tasks Complete:

  • Purchasing of asset pack (shaders & vfx)
  • New project setup/test
